My Birthday Present was hidden for 1,800 years in the Tiger Cave

I turned 45 last week and like most dads my age I didn’t want much. We get a dinner, maybe a tie or a shirt, if we’re lucky perhaps a cute drawing from our little ones to cherish in a frame on the wall or on our desks. This birthday started out exactly like that. However, in a surprise turn of events, I was further blessed that day with a amazing gift from my Father-In-Law in the form of an ancient Phra Tamsua Amulet. It’s beautiful condition left me speechless, rich ruddy brown clay, still bright and full of life despite the passage of over a dozen centuries, preserved by being kept from exposure deep in the Tiger Cave. It wears a mantle of black patina or oxidization that lightly blankets it’s various curves and crevasses causing it’s detailed features to “pop” and appear more pronounced.

I smiled at the site of my first Phra Tamsua Amulet, and when I looked down I saw a smile looking back at me that was older than my country. Older than the Kingdom of Thailand itself, it was old when Alexander the Great was warring through Persia in the west and the Han kingdom in China was battling through it’s 3 Kingdom’s period to the north. How lucky am I to feel the warmth, peace, and serenity that comes from the sage old smile of our elders. When I wear my Phra Tamsua Amulet I feel like “I got this”, empowered, the feeling you may have gotten when your grandparents, coach, or older mentor told you that they believed in you. It’s palpable, and powerful, and I’m grateful to have it close.

Learn more about the “Hermit of Tiger Cave” Phra Tamsua, and it’s amazing origin story, here in the Tavaravadi Period section. And if you would like to have one of your own, we have only ONE available (TS-01), originals are ancient and incredibly rare.
